I'm an alumnus of the the Speech and Debate Association who previously focused on publicly addressed events specifically Original Oratory. I have dabbled with Student Congress for two years regarding debate events.
My judging style is adaptable however there are key points that I will be considering when evaluating a round. These key points are:
- Speed and Clarity
I am fine with spreading as long as it's understandable. If I can not understand your argument, then I will miss key points in the argument that may cost you a point
- Evidence vs Analysis
I prefer well-explained analytical arguments over card dumping without a warrant.
- Argument = Style
Both logical, well-developed arguments and effective, persuasive delivery are considered when making a decision.
I expect professionalism and respect from in-round conduct. Intense rounds are appreciated; however, disrespect, hostility, or general contempt will be reflected in speaker points if it arise during the round.
