I’m excited to hear your arguments and see how you engage with one another. Here’s what I prioritize in a round:
1. Confidence & Presence – I want to see debaters who speak with conviction and authority. If you believe in what you’re saying, I’m more likely to as well. Be assertive, but not aggressive—confidence is key.
2. Direct Audience Engagement – Speak to me, not at me. Strong eye contact, intentional delivery, and a connection with your audience make for a much more persuasive speech. Avoid simply reading off a script—your ability to engage matters.
3. Respect & Sportsmanship – Debate is about challenging ideas, not attacking people. I value debaters who engage in a professional and respectful manner, showing care for both the activity and their opponents. Disrespect or poor conduct will reflect negatively in speaker points.
4. Clarity & Persuasion – I appreciate logical, well-structured arguments delivered in a way that is easy to follow. It’s not just what you say, but how you say it. A smooth, confident, and respectful speaker will always stand out.

Ultimately, I’m looking for a speaker/debater who is knowledgeable, poised, and engaging while maintaining respect for the round and their opponent. Show me that you care about debate, and I’ll reward you for it. Best of luck!
