WHSFA Open Virtual Speech Festival

Video/YouTube Instructions

Prepare

  • Rehearse/practice, including your introduction.

  • Bear in mind movement must be limited by range of your camera. You should record at least your upper body (torso). We are instructing judges (adjudicators) to be mindful for limitation of platform movement, and to focus evaluation of physical delivery on facial expressions and gestures.

Record Presentation

  • Use only a mobile device or computer webcam to video record your presentation, not professional equipment (this is to provide equity to all in terms of video quality).

  • Do not use external microphones.

  • Try to get close to the camera, with at least your upper body (torso) showing. We are instructing judges (adjudicators) to be mindful for limitation of platform movement, and to focus evaluation of physical delivery on facial expressions and gestures.

  • Performance must be recorded without interruption, no edits allowed, except before and after the presentation.

Upload to YouTube

We do not host videos, so you will need to upload your recording to YouTube.

  1. Sign in to YouTube
  2. Select “Create a video and more” in the upper right corner, then click “Upload video.” (see graphic) If you do not already have an account, you will be prompted to create one when you select “Upload video.” Follow the prompts to do so, then proceed to the next steps below.
  3. Click “select file” and locate the file you’d like to upload OR drag the file into the popup window.
  4. Follow the prompts and ensure your video is uploaded as “Unlisted.” If it is private, WHSFA adjudicators will not be able to view it.
  5. Post the video as Unlisted.
    • Judges will not be able to view the video if it is Private.
    • By posting the video as Unlisted, only people you share the link with will be able to view your video.
    • Due to copyright and youth protection laws, WHSFA does not endorse sharing of videos of performed literature outside the festival.

Link YouTube to SpeechWire

  1. Send whomever registered you (coach or parent) the link to the unlisted video.
  2. They will add it with your entry registration on SpeechWire.
  3. You cannot edit your performance video after you submit it.
  4. It will be adjudicated in early May and your coach/parent will be notified via email after evaluations have been completed.

WHSFA does not endorse the sharing of the performance video outside of the festival due to copyright.
