Ben Davis Debate Tournament

Dear Coach and Speakers,Welcome to the all inclusive Ben Davis Debate Tournament I on October 14, 2023. The meet will be held at Ben Davis High School located at 1200 N Girls School Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46214. We are looking forward to providing your students and judges with an awesome competition experience. This year we will be offering all debate events. DIRECTIONS AND PARKING
COVID POLICY Masks are optional. Please respect the choices of others. REGISTRATION DEADLINE All Registration will be done on www.speechwire.com. No emails, faxes or paper entries will be accepted. We strongly encourage that entries be made as early as possible (like right now, so you don’t forget) Registration will be locked (meaning no adding of entries can be added) on Thursday, October 12th, 2023 at 5:00 PM. Coaches will be able to make name changes and such until Friday, October 13th, 2023 at Noon. DROPS will be open in Speechwire until 8:00 AM, October 14th, 2023. You may call in drops to (317) 988-7188 as well. TOURNAMENT STRUCTURE This tournament will have novice and varsity divisions for Lincoln Douglas. All other events will be open.
NOVICE DEFINITION For our tournament, we are defining a novice debater/speaker as a first-year debater/speaker who has no or limited debate experience and no more than 35 NSDA points. ROUNDS:
TOURNAMENT RULES & EVENTS OFFERED: We will use ISSDA Event Rules outlined in the ISSDA Tournament Manual as well as ISSDA ADA guidelines. SEE INDIVIDUAL EVENT GUIDELINES ON SPEECHWIRE. BALLOT THIS IS AN E -BALLOT TOURNAMENT. All judges should score ballots and at the end of each round electronically. All judges MUST bring a device i.e. laptop or tablet for judging. We will not have devices to loan. ALL JUDGES SHOULD LOG INTO SPEECHWIRE UNDER THE EMAIL YOUR ACCOUNT IS REGISTERED. CONCESSIONS There should be no leaving the building as food for students will be served in the cafeteria. Complimentary food for judges, coaches and bus drivers will be available. JUDGE REQUIREMENTS - (NO STUDENT JUDGES) Each school MUST bring judges for their entries. Judge requirement will be 1 to 3 ratio i.e. 1 judge per 3 debaters (examples: 2 policy teams = one judge or 1 judge per 2 Congress and 1 LD) If you are bringing Congress students, please mark a Congress judge as Congress Parliamentarian & Debate judge code. This will indicate to the office as we assign judges, that this judge is willing to be a parliamentarian. Please make sure that your Parliamentarian is trained in Robert’s Rules of Order. JUDGE TYPE Please select the correct judge type for your judges:
JUDGES LOUNGE Judges lounge will be available at the tournament and will serve breakfast and lunch. AWARDS HIGH SCHOOL - We will give individual ribbons and team trophies (1-8).
