Dear Speech Coaches,

Aurora High School is excited to invite you to our 19th annual Invitational Speech Tournament on Saturday, February 3rd, 2023.  

This year, we will be utilizing SPEECHWIRE as our tournament software. To register, please log into your account. The Entry deadline is Sunday, January 28, 2024. Unfortunately, we will not allow “adds”, or additional entries the morning of the tournament. Our contest will be held at Aurora High School located at 3rd and M Street in Aurora. Buses are encouraged to unload in the front of the high school, but to park in the east parking lot.  Registration begins at 7:15 A.M. in the lobby of the high school and speaking events will begin at 8:00 A.M. 

Concessions and lunch will also be available for competitors. We encourage your students to patronize the concession stand as it is a local fundraiser.  However, we do ask that no food or drink (besides water) be taken into contest rooms. Coaches, judges, and bus drivers are invited to enjoy lunch in our hospitality room.

The tournament will include both a novice and varsity division with medals awarded for the TOP FIFTEEN PLACES in varsity, and TOP TEN PLACES in novice for each of the nine NSAA speech events. Students may compete in only three events unless they are in extemporaneous.  Of course, allowing your students to compete in three events is at your discretion.  We will have two preliminary rounds, as well as a Champs Final and an Honors Final.  In finals, we will have 12 varsity finalists and 6 novice finalists.  We will also award a championship sweepstake plaque for the top varsity and novice teams.  To determine these teams, we will only tabulate the points from the final rounds.

Our fees this year will be $7.50 per entry. We will not refund any fees for drops or charge for substitutes. You also need to provide one judge per six entries or pay an additional $75.00 for any uncovered entries. Please remember that you are responsible for the judges you intend to bring to the meet – if you do not arrive with the number of judges you specified in your entry, you will be billed accordingly. Also, we encourage you to bring certified judges to help ensure 

the best possible experience for the students.  Please indicate if a judge is suitable for novice or varsity - first year returning graduates should be marked for novice judging only.
