October 2024

Dear Colleagues,

Bradley University eagerly invites you to the 77th Annual L.E. Norton Memorial Tournament, which will be held on our campus from November 2-3, 2024.

The Norton is known for its competitive atmosphere and long-standing tradition of hospitality, and this year we hope to continue that legacy. Assistant Coaches David Daye and Sal Tinajero Jr., Team President Rodrigo Trujillo, Vice President Julia Hunt, Student Tournament Director Tomi Sewell, and the rest of our staff and team are eagerly preparing to make your Norton experience unforgettable!

We will offer novice and open divisions for all 11 AFA events. We will continue to award limited entry and individual sweepstakes as well. Congratulations to last year’s open team sweepstakes champions, Western Kentucky University. And congratulations to Gustavo Lanz from George Mason University on winning individual sweepstakes. Additionally, as customary, we’ll be honoring someone with the L.E. Norton award, who embodies the leadership, devotion and passion for college forensics exemplified by Dr. Norton. Congratulations to last year’s recipient, Dawn Lowry, from George Mason University.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. We hope you'll join us in Peoria to celebrate our activity and honor our tournament's namesake, Dr. L.E. Norton.

Sincerely,

Andrew Eilola

Director of Forensics

Tournament Notes

Content Warnings

We recommend the use of content and/or trigger warnings when possible for competitors who may be performing sensitive material. This can be written on the board and/or stated prior to the performance.

Quiet Room

There will be a quiet room available for students, coaches and judges who experience sensory overload or need a space to decompress.

Open Door Policy

We encourage competitors to stay and support all performances if they are not double-entered. However, we will have an open-door policy where students and audience members are free to leave before, during, and between performances without negative repercussions. Additionally, judges should accept all forms of listening, including students who disengage from a performance (e.g., actively dissociate, put their head down, etc.) when they are uncomfortable. We will remind judges and competitors of this at the tournament.

Judge Concerns

Please contact the tournament director if you have concerns about being judged by someone at the tournament. Blocks can be put in place if you have a problematic history with someone or are simply uncomfortable.
