David City Middle School Meet

Saturday, April 12 at David City High School
The meet will begin at 9 am and is open to any students in grades 6-8.
We will be using PAPER ballots!
Events
-Impromptu: 10 minute maximum for both preparation and speaking. (E.g. Brainstorm 2 minutes, outline 3 minutes, speak for 5 minutes.) No minimum speaking time limit. Students may use a notecard, but they must provide their own writing utensils and note card.
-Declamation: 10-minute maximum cutting, non-original speech. Script is not required.
-Duet Acting/Duo: 10-minute maximum cutting. The use of a table and two chairs are allowed. Scripts are optional but not encouraged.
-OID/Reader’s Theater: 15-minute maximum cutting. Scripts are required. Boxes or stools for staging are allowed. On and off stage focus are acceptable. No deliberate touching allowed.
-Humorous Prose: 10-minute maximum cutting. Use of a script is optional.
-Serious Prose: 10-minute maximum cutting. Use of a script is optional.
-Poetry: 8-minute maximum cutting. Use of a script is required.
-POI: 10-minute maximum cutting. Use of a script is required.
-Persuasive: 8-minute maximum original speech. Use of visual aids optional. Script is optional.
-Informative: 8-minute maximum original speech. Use of visual aids encouraged. Script is optional.
-Entertainment: 8-minute maximum original speech. Use of visual aids encouraged. Script is optional.
Depending on numbers, we reserve the right to combine categories if needed.
Students may be double entered.
Awards
We plan to present individual medals in each event as well as prizes for the top two teams.

10:30 - Round two (all events)

Judges
Experienced high school students may judge for your school. Please take the time to go over ballot criteria with them and what types of comments are most helpful. We want everyone to gain new insights throughout the day.
Please provide 1 judge per 6 entries. (E.g. 1-6 entries = 1 judge, 7-12 entries = 2 judges, etc.)
Food
Lunch will be provided to judges and coaches. There will likely NOT be concessions available, so please remind your students to plan accordingly. There is a grocery store within walking distance from the school.
Entries and Fees
Please register your speakers, events, judges, etc. on SpeechWire. Everything is due Thursday, April 10 at 5 pm, but please enter them as soon as you have an idea of what they will be. No charges will be assessed until the deadline. Any drops after the deadline will still be assessed entry fees.
Fees are $5 per entry. Remember, please provide one judge per 6 entries. Each entry that is not covered will be charged $10 per entry.
