Thunderbird Invitational
General information This is a High School tournament in Nebraska. View manager contact information
Hello Coaches!
The Thunderbird Forensics Team invites you to attend the Thunderbird Invitational on Friday, February 7th, 2025. Once again, we are a proud NIETOC National Qualifying tournament! We really enjoy running this tournament, and hope to make it a wonderful experience for everyone! We like to offer great food, a competitive and timely run tournament, and great awards! Please read over the invitation and call or e-mail - or text, for that matter - if you have any questions. We will run 3 rounds and finals, with finals divided into CHAMP and HONORS finals, as well as MERIT finals for any TOC event that has met the numbers criteria for MERIT.
Speech events are Open division, but we will be recognizing Top Novice in each individual event (Not DUO or OID). Double entry is allowed in all events; triple entry allowed for all. No quad entry. There is a triathlon award for those who are triple entered - however, in the event of a tie, we will pick individual events first. We will limit entries to six per event to make sure we have room for all schools, but we will also have a waiting list to fill the building on a first come, first serve basis. We will do everything we can to let all on the waitlist in; however, we have been stretching the limits of the building in previous years (somewhere around 650 entries). In the event we do allow more than six per event, only the top six from any school in any given event will be scored. Our events this year are POI, HI/HP, DI/SP, POE, DUO, ENT, INF, PER/OO, EXT, IMP, and OID.
We again will be tabbing without speaker points on the ballots. Tiebreaking to decide who makes finals is based on 1) prelim round combined ranks, 2) opponent's strength, 3) head to head, 4) prelim reciprocals. Finals tiebreaking will be 1) rank in finals, 2) judge's pref in finals, 3) final round reciprocals, 4) prelim round ranks, 5) prelim round opponent's strength.
We will also be using the NSDA overtime rule (those overtime simply cannot be ranked first). There will be no ghost ranks.
We also will be using BLAST capabilities for both competitors and judges - just helps with getting postings for rounds 2 and 3 out, as well as postings for finals. More information about how everyone can sign up will be coming the week of the tournament.
Since we're working with teams that are using a variety of rules, we will allow 12 minute DUO and 15 minute OID. Ballots are posted on this site under "Files posted by the tournament manager."
New for us: We are using a judge selection process. In an effort to streamline the process (and to get all teams to participate) this year we are going to try to incorporate judge types. You will be able to select one of three options. If a judge is most comfortable/competent in interpretation events, select INTERPRETATION JUDGE and they will only judge interpretation events. If they are most comfortable/competent in public address events, select PUBLIC ADDRESS JUDGE. If a judge is comfortable/competent in all events, they should be marked as SPEECH JUDGE. We will attempt to follow those selections unless needed. You are also encouraged to mark what a judge would like to judge for finals - it helps us ensure the best judges in final rounds, where it counts.
Parking information coming soon.
ENTRIES ARE DUE BY 4:00 p.m. ON TUESDAY, February 4th.
