Dear Speech and Debate Coach:
 
The Warren John F. Kennedy Speech and Debate Team cordially invites you and your team to attend the John F. Kennedy MS/HS Speech and Debate Tournament on October 26th, 2024!
 
PLEASE NOTE: THIS BQS TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD IN-PERSON WITH NO VIRTUAL OPTIONS!
 
TOURNAMENT OFFERINGS:
 
HIGH SCHOOL EVENTS 
 
**DOUBLE ENTRIES WILL BE PERMITTED IN SPEECH EVENTS ONLY (Except Extemp)**
 
Individual Events: We plan to have a total of three (3) rounds of competition of all OSDA speech events, likely over four (4) time slots.
 
Public Forum Debate: We will have three (3) or four (4) rounds of competition, depending on entry numbers. We will follow the NSDA Topic for NOV/DEC. 
 
Lincoln-Douglas Debate: We plan to have four (4) rounds of competition. Please follow the NOV/DEC NSDA topic. 
 
There will be NO HS BQD OR POLICY DEBATE.
 
Congress: We plan to have a single prelim scoring session of Congress for HS and then break to a final. We will be utilizing the OSDA docket assigned for October 26th for legislation. We will be scoring based on judge preference/ranks. We will also be using direct questioning and preset randomized recency. Legislation packets will be provided at least 2 weeks prior to the tournament.
 
MIDDLE SCHOOL EVENTS
 
Individual Events: We plan to offer a total of three (3) rounds of competition of all OSDA MS speech events, likely over four (4) time slots.
 
Congress: We plan to have a single prelim scoring session of Congress for MS. The specific docket will be forthcoming but will be from the OSDA MS docket. 
 
Middle School Extemp Debate and Middle School Public Forum is offered and will run if registration numbers support it.
 
Schedule: 7:45-8:15 Registration/Check-in- All head coaches will be responsible for add/drops for their team in SpeechWire prior to checking in with Tab staff. All judges will individually check-in at the designated judge check-in located in the Dining Hall.
 
The first round will begin by 8:45 a.m. *An official schedule of rounds will be posted by Thursday, October 24th after final entry counts are conducted.
 
Registration: Please register for the tournament on SpeechWire
Deadline to add entries: Monday, October 21st @ 9:00 p.m.
Deadline to add/edit judges: Friday, October 25th @ 4:00 p.m.
 
Registration Fees: $4.00 per entry in both HS and MS (PF & DUO count as 2 entry fees). All checks should be made payable to John F. Kennedy High School- Speech and Debate (Fees may be paid at the time of registration or PO provided). 
 
Judge Requirements: 
 
We will be using e-balloting. All judges are expected to bring a device. WiFi will be available.
 
IE:  One (1) judge for every five (5) IE entries (a Duo team counts as one entry) for either HS or MS.
Public Forum/LD/EXTD: One (1) judge for every 2 entries. 
Congress: One (1) scorer or parliamentarian for each school that has Congress entries. IF YOU HAVE HS AND MS CONGRESS YOU MUST HAVE ONE JUDGE FOR HS AND ONE FOR MS.
 
The fee for being short judges is $30.00 per judge.  This fee will be enforced. JUDGES DROPPED THE DAY OF THE MEET WILL RESULT IN A $30 FINE.
 
Youngstown District Judge Considerations:
In Speech Events, judges are to be blocked from categories in which a relative or someone they know well is competing.
Judges cannot be assigned to Congressional Debate if they have a child competing in Congress.
 
Food: There will be concessions at both campuses providing several options for students. Please bring money for concessions. Per Youngstown District rule, no outside food or beverage may be brought to the tournament.
 
Awards: Awards will take place in the dining hall. Awards will be given to the top 6 finishers in each event. If numbers do not warrant awarding the top 6 finishers in MS events, the top 3 will receive awards.
