The coaching staff and students of the Highland High School Speech and Debate cordially invite you to the Highland Speech and Debate Tournament. This year the tournament will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024. We will be using two buildings for competition. 

 

 

High School: 4150 Ridge Road Medina, Ohio 44256 (DEC, DI, DUO, HI, INFO, IX, OO, POI, USX) 

Middle School: 3880 Ridge Road Medina, Ohio 44256 (CD, LD, PF) 

 

Registration will be available at both buildings. Please drop off students at the main entrance at each respective building as we will not be providing transportation between buildings.

 

We will be offering the following High School OSDA/NSDA events: Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Student Congress, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Declamation, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Program Oral Interpretation, and Extemporaneous Speaking. 

 

Our tournament this year will offer four rounds of competition for individual events. Four rounds for LD and PF. We will host two rounds of student congress. This provides all students and teams with the opportunity for great competition! 

 

Student Congress will be using the Ohio Speech and Debate Association November 2024 docket. Lincoln Douglas, and Public Forum will be using the NSDA November/December 2024 topics. 

 

The school will be open at 7:00 AM. Breakfast and lunch for coaches and judges will be provided at both buildings. Breakfast and lunch for students will be available for purchase at both buildings.  

 

When you arrive, students can gather in the commons. Team registration will be located outside the Media Center at both Highland High School and Highland Middle School. The judge’s lounge at the high school will be located in the Media Center on the lower floor. The judge’s lounge at the middle school will be located in the Media Center on the main floor. 

 

Both schools have WIFI access in the whole building. 

 

We encourage you to register as many competitors as you wish in each Individual event category; however, based on space limitations, we might need to limit debate to a cap of four (4) in each event.  Additions past this point might need to be waitlisted. 

 

We will accept registration through Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.-space provided. 

 

Awards will be held at the high school following competition. We will award the top six teams in both “big school” and “small school” sweepstakes and top six competitors in individual events and debate. 

 

Our school will NOT provide transportation between competition. 

 

We will NOT provide judges for hire. Please do your best to fill your entire judging obligation. If you are unable to provide your full obligation, we may be forced to drop students from competition to ensure a smooth-running tournament.
