Hello! The coaching staff and students of the Wadsworth High School Speech and Debate Team cordially invite you to the annual Wadsworth High School Grizzly Classic. This year the tournament will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 (POLICY DEBATE ONLY pending sufficient entries) and Saturday, November 23, 2024 (ALL OTHER EVENTS PLUS POLICY). This tournament is a PDQ (Pre District Qualification) tournament for Policy Debate pending sufficient entries. This year we will be using two buildings for competition.
Friday ONLY: Policy debate will be held virtually using NSDA CAMPUS.
Saturday ONLY: Wadsworth Middle School will host Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, MS Public Forum, MS Extemp Debate.
Saturday ONLY: Wadsworth High School will host all other events.
We will be offering all OSDA/NSDA events: Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, Student Congress, 2-Person Policy Debate, Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Declamation, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Program Oral Interpretation, and Extemporaneous Speaking.
Our tournament this year will offer four rounds and a final of competition for individual events. Five rounds of preliminary, quarter, semifinal, and final for 2-person policy debate. Five rounds for LD and PF. We will host two rounds of student congress and one final "Super Session". This provides all students and teams with the opportunity for great competition!
Student Congress will be using the Ohio Speech and Debate Association November 2024 docket. The "Super Session" will be a scenario format. The first part of the scenario will be released in the coming weeks. Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, and 2 Person Policy will be using the NSDA November-December 2024 topics. We will approve the first four students/teams in LD and PF space provided. We will approve students from the waitlist where possible.
The schools will be open at 7:00 AM on Saturday. If you have students competing at both buildings, please check in on Saturday at both buildings. Food will be available for purchase at both buildings on Saturday. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for judges and coaches Saturday.
When you arrive Saturday, students can gather in the main commons at each of the buildings. Judges at the middle school should check in and gather at the Media Center. Judges at the high school should check in and gather at the senior commons (2nd floor).
The Extemporaneous Speaking Prep Room will be in the Media Center on the second floor. Our school has WIFI access in the whole building.
We encourage you to register as many competitors as you wish in each Individual event category; however, based on space limitations, we might need to limit debate to a cap of four (4) in each event. Additions past this point might need to be waitlisted.
We will accept registration through Tuesday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m.-space provided.
Awards will be held in the performing arts center (PAC) following competition. We will award the top six teams in both “Big School” and “Small School” sweepstakes and top six competitors in individual events and debate. We will announce awards prior to the end of Policy Debate competition.
We will NOT provide judges for hire. Please do your best to fill your entire judging obligation.
