THE TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN MOVED and IS NOW A “SLIMMED DOWN SCRIMMAGE” HOSTED @ LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL!!!
WE ARE HAPPY TO HELP OUT AND WE ARE LOCATED AT:1001 SE 12st Street, Gainesville, Florida 32641

This event is a celebration of life and our fortunes following the significant weather events, Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We recognize that many did not fare so well throughout Florida and the Southeast. It is our hope this tournament generates a spirit of generosity for those fortunate enough to share good fortune after these storms. In this spirit we have reduced entry fees to focus on giving to those in need. Please bring what you can to help those in need. Non-perishable foods, canned foods, socks, wipes, diapers, formula, and whatever you can donate. These items as well as any other form of donation will be delivered to Gainesville assistance groups like The Bread of The Mighty, or another appropriate organization that will accept. Following awards, we will gather and take a few photos before assembling and delivering the donation.

This event is really just a big local scrimmage. The idea is that we celebrate each other, give generously to those locally in need, get to know our local forensics affiliates better, and have fun on a short day. For the Lincoln Speech and Debate family, we are also running an informal dress rehearsal for next weekend when we host the opening Florida Civics and Debate Initiative (FCDI) #1 tournament, again here at Lincoln Middle School. We have a few I’s to dot and T’s to cross before we bring out the works next Saturday November 2, 2024. Looking forward to seeing you then!

This Saturday's Scrimmage will be hosted on SpeechWire. Please put your entry in Speechwire adding your student and judge information in order to receive e-ballots. Judges please bring an electronic device (laptop preferable) in order to judge. The entry fee of $5.00 per IE slot. $10.00 per Policy Debate slot. Divisions offered are: Middle, Novice, and Varsity. If divisions are collapsed, we will still recognize a Top Novice in each event category!

We'll offer the following events:
-Congressional Debate with alternating 3 min PRO/CON speeches and the appropriate use of Roberts Rules of Order, decorum, and civility.
-Original Oratory (limited to 150 quoted words). 10 minutes performance, 30 sec grace.
-Oratorical Declamation 10 minutes maximum with 30 secs grace.
-Oral Interpretation of Literature (alternating rounds of Prose and Poetry—the performer needs two programs—one of Prose and one of Poetry to place above Honorable Mention in the competition—but entries are welcome to exhibition just one side for ballot feedback). 10 minutes performance, 30 sec grace.
-Just Talk (for first year performers in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade). Just Talk was never envisioned as a multi-year event or for high school students. It is a chance for our least confident students to have an opportunity to shine a bit and to gain confidence. Non-first year students should be moving on to the more established main events or national supplementals to make room for the least experienced. That’s always been the intent of Just Talk   3:30 minutes minimum-6:30 minutes maximum.
-Impromptu Speaking with 7 total minutes for prep and for performance.
-Informative Speaking, 10 min platform to inform not to persuade; props/visual aids allowed; 10 min performance, 30 second grace
-Extemporaneous Speaking with 30 minutes prep and a 7 total minute performance.
-Policy Debate 8-3-5 format, 8 minutes prep with the option of 7-2-4 format, 6 minutes prep (if both teams agree).

Concessions will be available for purchase. CASH ONLY.  Pizza with be ordered $5.00 per person for 2 slices CASH ONLY. Coaches, please give an estimated number of pizza eaters by 9:30am on Saturday. We have no electronic venue capability for handling venmo/zelle, etc., for pizza or concession purchases.
