Indiana Three-Round Tune Up
General information This is a High School tournament in Indiana. View manager contact information
Hello Coaches,
You and your team are invited to the Indiana Three-Round Tune Up High School Debate Tournament to be held on January 4th, 2025. My plan for this is to throw together a last minute, laid back, quick in and out virtual tournament for the purposes of giving our kids an opportunity to test out their January Cases. After some discussion with coaches, I’ve bumped it up to three rounds so that we can get a couple power matched rounds in, but I still plan to single flight and be done by 1:30 p.m.
Registration will run at 8:30 a.m. and Rd. 1 starting at 9:00 a.m. Competition schedule is on Eastern Time. The entry deadline is 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd. Entries are to be made through Speechwire. Please try to have your judges in by Thursday afternoon as well. Drops will be available through Saturday morning so feel free to process those on your own.
Policy Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, World Schools Debate, and Student Congress Debate will all be offered. There will be a Varsity and a Novice division in all five events.
A novice debater is a student who has never debated competitively prior to the 2024-2025 season. Any previous debate competition experience makes that student a Varsity debater.
All Events and Divisions will follow ISSDA rules and restrictions.
Topics
Lincoln-Douglas Debate – 2025 January/February Topic Resolved: The United States ought to become party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Public Forum Debate – 2025 January Topic Resolved: The African Union should grant diplomatic recognition to the Republic of Somaliland as an independent state.
Student Congress-December/January Docket- A.M. Session FP 5: A Bill to End the Sudanese Displacement SC 3: A Resolution to Reform Public Service Unions SC 4: A Bill to Regulate Homeschooling
Chambers should attempt to debate three bills within each session. Varsity/ chambers may elect their P.O. Please email P.O. nominations for the novice chamber to- jstarkweather@phm.k12.in.us
World Schools Debate - All rounds will use the prepared topic: This House Believes That greater national self-sufficiency is an important component of global climate change resilience. Obviously WSD will be able to use computers for streaming, but please encourage your students to practice good habits by not using the internet for information during competition, as the whole purpose of this tournament is preparation for state.
Policy Debate – 2024-2025 Topic-Resolved: The United States federal government should significantly strengthen its protection of domestic intellectual property rights in copyrights, patents, and/or trademarks.
Important Note: Novice Policy Topic Restrictions are no longer in place starting on Dec 1st.
****Judges**** We ask that each team provide the number of judges to run the tournament smoothly. LD, PF, CX, WSD-1 judge for every 2 entries Congress- 1 judge for every 5 entries
Please try to bring judges who can judge all events. We will be in need of debate event judges more than we will need Congress-type judges. Therefore, please make sure that your judges are able and qualified to judge more than just Congress.
A limited number of student judges will be allowed if they currently have over 250 NSDA points. They will only be allowed to judge Novice competitions.
No Ribbons or Awards or Concessions
