Novice Championship Tournament at Northwood University Dear Forensics Family: The Michigan Intercollegiate Speech League and Northwood University would like to invite you to the 2025 M.I.S.L. Novice State Championship Tournament. The tournament will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2024, on Northwood University’s campus with the theme of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Registration and awards ceremony will be held in the Sloan Family Aftermarket Building Auditorium. The competition will be spread out between the Sloan Family Aftermarket Building and the R. Gary Academic Building. These buildings are not connected, so please plan accordingly for walking outdoors in winter weather. The 2025 M.I.S.L Novice State Championship Tournament will offer all 11 individual events. Awards will be given to the top six (6) speakers in each individual event. We will recognize the top three (3) schools overall, the top three (3) speakers overall, and the top community college. Entries are due by Tuesday, February 11th no later than 5:00pm. TENTATIVE TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE Saturday, February 15, 2025
Flights: A= Extemporaneous, Prose, Informative, Rhetorical Criticism, Poetry, Duo B= Persuasive, After Dinner Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Impromptu, Programmed Oral Interpretation Please note the following about Extemporaneous Speaking: Laptops will be allowed in the prep room; however, Northwood University requires student or faculty identification to access the internet.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
Entries: All entries must be entered into SpeechWire by 5:00pm EST, Tuesday, February 11, 2025. Any adjustments made to the entry after the deadline but prior to the tournament will be subject to a $10.00 nuisance fee, as well as a $15.00 fee per dropped judge. Any changes to entries at registration will be subject to a $25.00 nuisance fee. Dropped judges at registration will be subject to a $50.00 nuisance fee. Please contact Ryan Rigda (rsrigda@svsu.edu) with any questions about entries. Judges: Please remember, judges must possess a baccalaureate degree or its equivalent or have completed four (4) years of collegiate competition. Schools which enter the maximum number of contestants in fifty percent (50%) or more of the slated events shall be required to cover seventy-five percent (75%) of their entry with “clean” judges. Fees: $10.00 for each I.E. slot $10.00 for each uncovered I.E. slot $10.00 per drop prior to registration/$25.00 per dropped judge prior to Saturday $25.00 per drop at registration (slots and judges) Judging: 1 judge covers 6 I.E. entries Please bring clean judges when possible.
