Awards will be presented to: a. The top six (6) speakers in each IE event. b. The top novice in each event c. The top community college competitor in each event. d. The top three (3) schools in sweepstakes. e. The community college finishing highest in sweepstakes. f. The top two contestants in oratory shall represent Michigan at that year’s Interstate Oratory Association’s Tournament. g. The top three contestants in quadrathon will receive awards. To qualify a student must be entered in at least four events, one of each genre (oral interpretation, limited preparation, and public address). If the student is entered in more than four events, only the top score in each genre and the student’s next top scoring event will be used in determining results. Tabulation of points will be identical to the tabulation of team sweepstakes, with preliminary points halved and added to final round total. A quadrathon entry will count as a slot in calculation of fees, but it will not count as a slot in the calculation of the Director’s Trophy winner. h. The Director’s trophy for Quality will be awarded to the school with the highest overall slot quality, determined by dividing the school’s total sweepstakes points by the total number of slots that that school entered into the State Championship Tournament as of the close of registration.
Fees: $10.00 for each I.E. slot $15.00 for each uncovered I.E. slot $15.00 per drop prior to registration/$25.00 per dropped judge $25.00 per drop at registration (slots and judges)
$25.00 per hired judge per round * If needed $150.00 per hired judge for the day * If needed Directions: Judy Sturgis Hill Building, Ypsilanti, MI 48197 If you're on US-23, take exit 37A Washtenaw Avenue East. Continue on Washtenaw, and take a left onto Hewitt (there should be a Walgreen's on the corner). You should pass the football stadium on your right. Take a right onto Huron River Drive. Stay on Huron River, it will take you past a McDonald's and the North Campus Lots and will take a right curve and turn into a one-way street. Stay in the right-hand lane, and take a right at the light onto Jarvis. The Alexander Pay Lot will be on your left. Sturgis Hill is the building on the left with the circle drive. If you're on 1-94, take exit 183, Huron River Drive (There should be signs indicating it as the EMU exit). Go north on Huron River Drive, and continue past Cross Street (Michigan Firehouse Museum) and past Forest Ave. Just after you pass Forest make the first left turn onto Jarvis. If you get to the gas station Kampus Korner than you have gone too far. Turn onto Jarvis and go through the light at Lowell St. to get onto campus. Your first left will be the Alexander Pay Lot. This is the best place to park and Judy Sturgis and Pray Harold are the building right next to the Alexander Music Building. Sturgis Hill is the building with the circle drive. Parking: The university has made a significant shift in its parking policy. The university has privatized parking on campus. Thus, while in the past parking was open on the weekends, this year the only options for parking are in the designated pay lots. The closest is the McKenny Guest Pay Lot located to the southwest corner of Mark Jefferson off of Oakwood Street. The daily max rate is $12.00. Please also find the ParkEMU website where you will find more information https://www.parkemu.com/visitors/parking-rates/. If you have further questions or concerns please feel free to contact Bill Heinze.
