We are excited to announce the 2025 New Jersey Speech & Debate League (NJSDL) Middle School State Championship! The tournament will be held in-person on Friday May 16, 2025 at Long Valley Middle School! Thank you to Ms. Christa Smith and Long Valley Middle School for hosting and thank you to our pool of NJSDL high school judges without whom this tournament would not be possible!

 

This is an OPEN State Championship to students who attend a middle school (Grades 4-8) in the state of NEW JERSEY.

 

TOPICS

• Public Forum Debate TBA.
• Congressional Debate legislation dockett will be released on Friday, May 2, 2025.
• SPAR Debate topics will be released at the beginning of each round during the tournament.
   

REGISTRATION

Registration is due by 12:00pm (noon) on Thursday, May 15, 2024 on Speechwire.com.

A five ($5) dollar drop fine will be added for students who are dropped after 10:00am on Friday, May 16, 2025.

 

JUDGES

We are asking each middle school to supply as many judges as they reasonably can but please do not limit students from competing due to a lack of judges. We will do our best to use the pool of NJSDL students to cover judge obligations where needed. Please email gyablon@hudsoncharter.org if you are short on judges and if we have enough student judges we will remove the “Judge Fees” in Speechwire once registration closes. If we are able to keep the head coaches free from judging during at least one of the time slots, we would like to hold a planning meeting for next year.
