Hortonville High School Forensic Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Wisconsin. View manager contact information January 5, 2016
Dear Forensic Coach, Here at Hortonville High School we are excited to extend the invitation for your team to join us at our Forensic Tournament on February 13, 2016. Offered, yet again this year, will be the special category of Oratorical Declamation, in addition to the Impromptu consolation category during final rounds. Contrary to past years, however, we unfortunately need to share our building with a regional wrestling tournament, so please take note of the need to keep all valuables on your person and be respectful of our joint spaces. Entries At this point there is no limit on entries. Varsity teams will be noted during registration on SpeechWire. If you have students who would like to be double-entered, they will count as two entries. Categories/Double-Entering Double-entering will be allowed, except in the categories of Extemporaneous Speaking and Radio Speaking. We will also be offering Oratorical Declamation and Impromptu. Oratorical Declamation is only offered for freshmen and sophomores. The impromptu rounds will run during the power rounds, so that students who have not qualified for the power round may try their hand at impromptu speaking. The WFCA rules for Impromptu will be adhered to for these rounds, with a “power” round of the students who receive 1s in the preliminary rounds. Please encourage your students to participate in this bonus competition! Fees Entry fees are $8.00 per individual event and $12.00 per Play Acting, Duo Interpretation, and Group Interpretation entry. Unless you drop or cancel 48 hours prior to the tournament, you will be responsible to pay the fees of the entries you registered. Judges Each school must bring one qualified judge per five entries or fraction thereof. Regardless of drops, you are responsible to bring AT LEAST the number of judges as you indicated on Monday during registration, the week of the tournament. A limited number of judges may be available for hire at $100 each. Awards Individual gold, silver, and bronze medals with ribbons will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. All finalists not placing will receive smaller medals without ribbons. Team trophies will be awarded to the top two schools in all three categories. These are the designations: large team (20-25 entries), medium team (13-19 entries) and small teams (5-12 entries). As has become our tradition, the team trophies are cups that will be filled with Valentines candy, to be shared and enjoyed by the winning team’s members. Rules All WFCA rules will be followed. Please note changes in categories from last year. Food Concessions food will be served by parents representing our wrestling team this year, due to the shared space. Please note that we need all students to eat in the high school commons area so the power rounds start on time. Food for the judges and coaches will be served in G135 (Judges Lounge/TAB room). Entry Deadline Please submit your entries on SpeechWire by 4:00pm on Monday, February 8th. If you struggle with the process, you can contact me at annebrahe@hasd.org. You will be able to make changes on your own registration through SpeechWire until Friday, February 12th at noon. A confirmation email will be sent out the week of the tournament, but remember that you can view your entries and invoice at any time using SpeechWire. Confirmation Please remember to confirm your entries on Saturday morning before 7:30 a.m. Schedules will not be run until we hear from ALL teams. Don’t be the team that delays the tournament. Please text 920-740-6518 to confirm your entries before 7:30am! When I receive your text, I will message back a confirmation. If you do not receive a confirmation within 5-10 minutes and are concerned, please text my assistant coach Kristen Jobe at (920) 209-0979 and she will see that the information reaches me. Do not call the main number at the school – you will not reach anyone as our TAB room does not base out of the high school office. Questions If you have any questions prior to the tournament, I can be reached at my classroom phone number (920)779-7933 x13221, my cell phone (920) 740-6518, or by e-mail at annebrahe@hasd.org Schedule Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., draw is at 8:15 a.m. and Round One for all events will be 8:45 a.m. If all goes well, awards will be at 3:00 p.m. (if not earlier!) Registration will be held in G135 (our judges’ lounge). Students can congregate in our new commons. There will be signs as you enter our new main entrance in the parking lot on Warner Street. This will be the ONLY entrance open due to increased school security measures. Schedules will be posted in the commons for students (will need to write them down) and copies will be available in the judges’ lounge for judges once all entries are confirmed. We hope you can attend, and we look forward to seeing you on the 13th of February!
