General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Minnesota. View manager contact information
Tournament Information:
Categories:
We will be offering all 13 MSHSL categories. We will also offer the NSDA category Program Oral Interp (POI) and Impromptu.
Tournament Schedule:
Registration Deadline:
Monday, January 16th, 2017 (Initial Team Entry Deadline)
Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at 3:00pm (drops and adds – all drops after this point will not result in a change of statement)
Entry Limits:
There are no team or category entry limits
Entry Fees:
$7 per entry/$14 per duo
Checks payable to Chanhassen High School Boosters
**We will be charging a $25 team fee to cover the cost of transportation from Chaska Middle School West to the the high school for those novice members competing at the middle school.
Entry Changes:
Entry changes (drops or adds) can be made on the speechwire.com tournament site up until the end of registration. We can also accommodate drops and adds at the registration table the morning of the tournament. We will be site scheduling all rounds of competition in order to make sure rounds are equal and fair. For this reason, registration must be completed promptly by 7:45 AM or a phone call to 612-408-7139 must be made to report your team drops.
Novice/Varsity Split:
Because this tournament is so early in the season, we will be splitting novice and varsity competitors in all categories. We will not have novice final rounds (so novices can make it over to the high school to watch varsity finals). It would be our hope that novice competitors would go to the varsity final rounds for their categories to watch their eloquence. A novice competitor is a first year speech competitor or one who has switched from PA to Interp or the other way around.
We will keep discussion and novice extemp speaking and novice discussion at the high school. The middle school is only 5 minutes away.
Double Entering/Triple Entering:
Double entering is allowed in ALL categories, including discussion. Discussion will have start 15 minutes early to accommodate those double entries (discussants should not double enter in a draw category). Draw category double entries are allowed, but students should not double enter in 2 draw categories. Triple entry will be allowed as long as the student is not in more than 1 draw category. Students double and triple enter at their own risk!! Novice discussion and novice extemp speaking will not be allowed to double enter in other novice events because they are in different venues.
Judging Requirements:
Teams need to bring 1 judge for every 6 entries or fraction thereof. A small number of judges will be available for hire at $80 for the day. Please email Travis Rother if you need to hire a judge by Monday, January, 18th.
Judging Finals:
We ask that ALL judges be available to judge final rounds (even those judges who are exclusively at Chaska Middle School West with the novices. Those judges will have plenty of time to get from the middle school to Chanhassen High School for final round judging). If you have any coaches at the tournament who are not judging, please consider making them available for final rounds, it will make our lives much easier. We would like to offer panels of 5 judges for varsity finals if we can make it work. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Tournament Format:
Novice: Three preliminary rounds
Varsity: Three preliminary rounds and a final
Minnesota State High School League Event Info:
