The University of Illinois at Chicago AND Governors State University are pleased to invite you to the Chicago Swing on October 19th and 20th, 2019 hosted on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
We are pleased to offer all 11 AFA Events. A novice division will be offered for any events with sufficient entries. Novice is defined for this tournament as a competitor in their first two years of competition. Awards will be presented to the top six speakers in each event, top five speakers in individual sweepstakes, and the top five schools in team sweepstakes.We will also offer a combined swing sweepstakes awards.
While there will be hundreds of hotel options to choose from in Chicago, we recommend that you begin your search early to find the best rate.
After awards on Saturday, we will be meeting for the third Chicago Swing social dinner at Portillo’s, only a few minutes away from the UIC campus. We hope you will all join us!
Please enter the tournament by using speechwire.com before 5pm on Tuesday October 15th, 2019. Fees are $10 per IE entry. One judge will be required for every six entries. Uncovered entries are each $15. Drop fees will be assessed after noon on Wednesday, October 16th. The drop fee for IE is $15 per dropped slot and $50 per dropped judge. These fees will apply each day as each day is a separate tournament.
Student run teams will not be charged for entries covered by judges. Any teams in need of entry fee discounts will be given support if we are asked for it.

Sweepstakes Points Individual SweepstakesAll students will be entered in individual sweepstakes. Students will earn points toward individual sweepstakes for any entry reaching open finals. Team SweepstakesTeam sweepstakes will be awarded to the top five teams at the tournament each day based on final round points. Individual and team sweepstakes points will be awarded as follows: 12 Points – 1st Place in open final 10 Points – 2nd Place in open final 8 Points – 3rd Place in open final 6 Points – 4th Place in open final 4 Points – 5th Place in open final 2 Points – 6th Place in open final 1 Point – Non-advancing Semifinalist Only a team’s two best finishers in each event will be eligible to score team sweepstakes points. The scores from both Saturday and Sunday will be totaled in order to determine overall swing sweepstakes.
Awards:We will present awards to the finalists in each individual event. We will continue the tradition of providing unique “trophies” for the UIC Half (a surprise for the WINDY City.) The top five speakers in individual sweepstakes, and the top five schools in team sweepstakes will be recognized.We will also offer a combined swing sweepstakes (team and individual) awards. **NOTE NOVICE DIVISION REQUIRES 6 or more entries** Designate each competitor as novice or varsity when registering.
Tournament Entry:Entries are due via Speech Wire Entry Deadline: 5 p.m., Tuesday, October 15 Fees Assessed: Noon, Wednesday, October 16 If you have questions, feel free to contact Vance by email (vpierce4@uic.edu) or phone (309.648.7605).
Fees: Entry fees are $10.00 per slot. One full-time judge covers 6 IE entries. The cost per uncovered IE slot is $15.00. Fees are assessed as the entry stands at noon on Wednesday, October 16th. A fee of $15.00 is assessed for each drop or add after this time. All judges are expected to be available for final rounds. All judges are considered “clean” for final rounds. Teams will be charged a fee of
$50.00 for every judge dropped from the tournament. **This year the Saturday Half will provide Chicago Pizza for the tournament. This is included in the fees for Saturday**

Please consider joining the even if you pick a different lunch option!
