The HSE Gobbler Speech and Debate Tournament Hamilton Southeastern High School would like to invite you to our HSE Gobbler Speech and Debate Tournament on November 16th, 2019. We will be offering the following events:
Discussion Original Oratory Congress Drama Informative World School Debate Humor Foreign Extemporaneous Public Forum Debate Duo Domestic Extemporaneous Policy Debate Poetry Broadcasting Lincoln Douglas Debate Prose Impromptu Improvisational Duo Original Performance POI Big Question
Here are the particulars:
The tournament will consist of 3 rounds and a final for the top 6 contestants along with a Next-in Round for 7 – 12 placements. Contestant will be able to double at their OWN RISK! Discussion will be allowed to double because rounds will start with Extemp. Prep. Students may triple enter if their third event is Improv. Duo. This will not include Debate, Congress, or Big Question.
Domestic and Foreign Extemporaneous will draw ALL rounds.
Deadline for entries will be November 8th at 11:59 p.m.
Broadcasting: (specifics will be released Monday of tournament): Rd 1—5 minute News Program (Music Lead in/ Lead out, Commercial and Newscast) prepared by student. Rd 2—2 minute Editorial. Student written. Rd 3—2 minute Prep/ 2 minute Broadcast “On the Spot”. Final—Repeat of Round 1.
Debate Topics—Will be November/December topics.
Congress Bills: To be announced the Monday before tournament.
Discussion will be using Socratic Seminar ideology. Stimuli will be given the Monday prior to the tournament.
Impromptu will follow IHSFA State rules. Topics will be a Word, Quote, or Current Event.
Each school may enter up to 6 contestants in each of the Individual Speech Events. World School Debate will be limited to 2 teams per school. All Debate events (PF, CX, LD, CONG, and BQ) will have no limitations on entries. Please remember, you may then have same schools going up against each themselves.
All other IHSFA rules apply. Food will be provided all day. Please help us offset the cost of hosting by purchasing food and drinks.
Judge Requirements: Speech judges is 1 judge for every 5 entries (6 entries = 2 judges, etc.); Debate judges 1 judge for every 2 entries for Public Forum and Policy (3 entries = 2 judges, etc.) Lincoln Douglas, Big Question, and Congress is 1 judge for every 5 entries.
At this time, we our hoping to use the E-ballet option for this tournament. HSE would also like to encourage all schools to participate in the Big Question. HSE will be using this as a fundraiser functioning through the NSDA.
